Traveler Bio

Hallo! Hello! My name is Lilian Lucas, but I usually go by Lily. I am 22 years old and a recent college graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Originally, I am from the Metro-Detroit area of Michigan, and I grew up with three sisters. I have many different hobbies, but I have been playing soccer since I was four years old, and played on the women's soccer team at my university. Some of my other hobbies include painting, rock climbing, and hiking. I love to learn new languanges, and studied Spanish for five years before college. I am now working on my German!

In college, I studied geology, which is the study of the Earth, and yes, rocks! I am really interested in studying natural hazards, which include volcanoes, earthquakes, landslides, and more. Learning more about these Earth processes can help scientists and the government better prepare at-risk communities for these natural disasters in the future.

I am currently in Bremen, Germany as a Fulbright researcher, working with other scientists to study a volcano in the Galapagos Islands called Sierra Negra volcano. I am going to Sierra Negra in October for field work, and would be happy to bring you all along on my travels! I am excited to share stories of geology, volcanoes, and the Earth, while also showing you what it is like to live in Germany.
