Navigating London

Introduction:

When I landed at London's Heathrow International Airport, I transferred to the Tube (London's subway system) to get to my apartment. I was extremely happy to find out that the Piccadilly line runs directly from Heathrow to where I live. The Tube ride took about an hour to get from Heathrow on the far west side of London to Bloomsbury, which is right in the center of the city. The Tube cars have sections that are specifically designated for luggage, which definitely came in handy. I was also grateful to be getting on at the very first stop of the Piccadilly line, which made it easy to get a seat on the train. Often when I take the Tube for class, everyone is jam-packed on the train like sardines! During rush hour, at certain stations, I’ve had to wait for a couple trains to come before I was able to get on one, but it isn’t so bad because the trains arrive pretty frequently.

How do people get around?:

Most people in London get around the city by taking the bus. The bus is only £1.50, whereas the Tube costs £2.80, and if you take two different buses within an hour you’re only charged once. The buses are also way more reliable than the Tube, and they run overnight. Getting a seat on the bus is also way easier than trying to squeeze into a car on the Tube. I like that buses allow you enjoy scenic views of London while getting from point A to B.
