Traveler Bio

Hello! My name is Kaitlyn, but you can call me Kaity. I am a 23-year-old American now living and teaching in the Kingdom of Lesotho. Never heard of Lesotho? That's okay, neither had I until I moved here! Lesotho is a small country landlocked in the middle of South Africa and I'm excited to tell you all about it on our journey together. I am originally from a small beach town in Southern California.

I moved to Texas to get my college degree in Political Science until I realized that I love kids and want to work in a classroom. After graduating college and working in America for a year, I applied to join the United States Peace Corps. The Peace Corps sends American citizens abroad to help other countries meet their need for trained individuals. Through this program, I was able to move to Lesotho as a volunteer. I teach 4th grade in a small, rural village in Africa.

Life is different in Africa because I don't have running water or electricity and now live in a small hut made of mud and stones. However, I'm still the same person I was in America. I love to read, swim, and play legos. I also like to watch Star Wars, have picnics, and cook. More than anything...I love my job! I love being a teacher to twenty funny, curious, and smart 4th graders. I still have two more years of teaching ahead of me, so join me as I share the food, culture, and experiences of Lesotho. I even have plans to travel elsewhere in Southern Africa this year and am excited to share those experiences with you as well. Until then - Salang Hantle (this is how we say goodbye in the language of Sesotho. It translates to "stay well").
