Even though French and Parisian people are not globally known for their hospitality, I have felt very welcomed in this magnificent city. Before arriving in Paris, I was really scared of interacting with people in a language that is not my own. Additionally, I was scared of arriving in a city where people live a very hectic and busy life. How were they going to welcome me? Was I going to feel discriminated against for being a foreigner?

Despite the doubts in my mind, all my fears and preconceptions have been proven to be wrong. People in Paris have been really nice to me and I can't really think of a bad interaction I've had so far. Even though speaking French to native speakers took a little bit of adjustment, I learned that people really appreciate and like when someone who is not a native speaker makes an effort to speak their language. I have not once felt judged and most people are very understanding and patient when I don't understand something.

Moreover, my time here has taught me the importance of getting involved in the local culture and not being afraid to ask locals questions about their traditions and customs in a respectful way.
