What was the best meal this week?:

The best meal I had this week was a plate called Masala Chipsi. The dish is basic French fries covered in a spicy Indian powder called masala. The chips are very spicy, which is perfect for me because it reminded me of spicy Mexican food, which I really love! They only cost 4,000 Tanzanian shillings, which is about $1.75 for a large bowl--another reason I loved the dish.

What music did I listen to this week?:

This week I listened to a song called Jambo Bwana. It is a song that teaches you the basic Kiswahili words and greetings, including Habari Ako (How are you?), Nzuri Sana (Very well) and Hakuna Matata (No worries). This is one of my favorite songs from Tanzania so far. It is very fun to sing and dance to. I will play this song for my family when I return and have them dance to it as well!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I really enjoyed creating Massai jewelry from beads with my new friend Paula! She was a great mwalimu (teacher) and she gave me lifelong knowledge, plus I have some new earrings for my little sister back home.

What did I read this week?:

This week I read various articles about traditional irrigation (watering) practices for plants in the Iringa region. I am doing a study of the ways farmers water their plants to find if there may be a better system that can be put in place in order to grow more plants. I am very excited to go to the village and begin this project!
