Trying Polish Food

Introduction:

Pierogi are one of the most common foods in Poland.  They are a type of dumpling, which is a soft dough filled with different meats, vegetables, cheese or fruit.  They can be boiled or fried.  You usually get a plate of six of them for your meal, which can fill you up!

What food did I try?:

I tried a type of pierogi that was stuffed with strawberries.  These pierogi are often served for dessert.  Most of the pierogi are stuffed with savory fillings like meat, cheese, and vegetables - so, the strawberry ones are very special.  There are also pierogi stuffed with blueberries.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I was excited to try them, but I had never had a pierogi with a sweet filling like fruit.  I love strawberries so I was curious how they would taste inside of the pierogi dough.  The strawberry pierogi were very delicious!  They were not too sweet. They were nice and warm. They were covered in raspberry sauce and cocoa powder.  They are a nice treat to have on a cold day.

How is the food prepared?:

The pierogi are made by making a simple dough from flour and eggs and rolling it out into a thin sheet.  Cups are used to cut out circles in the dough.
