Hi!

My name is Emmanuel Ampomah Dwomoh, but most people call me Kofi. Why Kofi? Well, I was born and grew up in Kumasi, Ghana before moving to the U.S. after high school, so I am a Ghanaian-American. In Ghana, you get a name depending on the day of the week you are born. I was born on a Friday, so I am a Kofi. What day of the week were you born on? Maybe I can tell you your Ghanaian name later.

I grew up in a big family in Ghana. I have three brothers and five sisters. Yes! I have eight siblings and I am the eight born. So, you can imagine, growing up in a family like this was full of fun. There was never a dull moment in the house. I had such a fun childhood with all of my siblings. My mom moved to New York to work when I was about 10 years old, so I grew up with my dad for some time before my dad joined my mom. Growing up, I always loved to travel, especially when we were on break from school. I would always visit my auntie in the big city, Accra, which is the capital of Ghana. I wanted to follow my love to travel and to learn so, I went to a boarding high school in the southern part of Ghana. There, I studied general science for four years and after, spent two years at a college in Ghana before joining my parents in New York.

In City College of New York, I continued my college education. I studied biology, following my passion for science.
