Chapatti!

But because of my love for street food, I will talk about chapatti, which I really enjoy. 

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Chapatti is like flatbread or naan, but thicker. I remember when I first ordered it, I thought it would be just like any ordinary flatbread I’ve eaten in the U.S. – that is until I tasted it. It was really delicious! Unlike regular flatbread, the chapatti had a sweet aftertaste, which I found very enjoyable. 

How is the food prepared?:

First, flour, finely chopped onion, salt, and shredded carrots are mixed with warm water. More flour is added as needed until the mixture becomes sticky. The dough is then kneaded by hand. A little bit of oil is added to the mixture while kneading. The dough is then left to sit for about 30 minutes. After, the dough is rolled and cut into small balls. Now it is ready to cook!

 

When cooking, oil is heated in a flat pan. The balls of dough are flattened and rolled out with a rolling pin. The dough is then placed in the hot pan to cook. After a few minutes, it is flipped to allow the other side to cook as well. The chapatti is ready when it looks brownish on each side. Now you can enjoy your chapatti!

 

Chapatti is eaten as-is or can be made into a "Rolex." Rolex is a chapatti-wrap with eggs and vegetables.
