Nature News

This week, I saw sheep and goats grazing in a valley, yet I also saw a lost sheep near the famous Ramallah Cultural Palace in the city. I think that he was trying to sneak into the show that I was attending!

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

Aside from cute sheep and goats that talked back to me as I bleated ("uttered the cry of a sheep") at them while hiking, the coolest thing that I saw this week was some ancient desert caves in the limestone valley of Wadi al-Jihar. Two of the major exports of the Palestinian Territories are limestone and marble. So, it was cool to walk through a valley and see where this material that is used to build nearly all of the houses, buildings and structures throughout Israel and the Palestinian Territories comes from in nature.

Other Nature News from this week:

Now that things are warming up here, I've been noticing more and more new and funky seasonal fruits and vegetables that I've never seen before in the markets. For example, I recently tried a green almond, which is fuzzy and quite sour and best to be eaten with salt. I've also noticed that the valleys close to my apartment are growing greener and small yellow flowers are popping up.
