Who Am I and Where Am I?
- Where exactly on a map are you, Liz?: What exactly does the West Bank mean and what is it west of? The Palestinian Territories is a term that refers to the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, which according to an international agreement signed in 1949 serve as a separation between the state of Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The West Bank, where I currently live and work, refers to the west bank or side of the Jordan River.
- What’s the capital?: This is a bit of a tricky question to answer. The acting government body of the Palestinian Territories, known as the Palestinian Authority, claim East Jerusalem as its capital. But, Ramallah, the city I live in, serves as the headquarters for the Palestinian government. The reason for this is because Jerusalem is also considered the capital of Israel.
