Ecuador's Rare Recall of Colonialism

Ecuador is a place filled with places for good views and tourism but, in some places, you can also find older sites. These are certain places and designs that come from colonial rule. The colonial period of Ecuador lasted for a little more than two centuries from the 1560s to the 1780s. They were ruled by the king of Spain and for each city, the King sent one Viceroy or, Governor. As a result, they were called a Spanish colony and now have Spanish as their official language. This is one of the greatest inheritances they received from the colonial time. Another thing introduced to Ecuador was how to make coins for trade and to use as the new currency. After visiting a bank with my host family, I saw the many changes that have occurred with the currency of Ecuador since colonialism.

Even though the country inherited some good things from colonialism, modern Ecuador cares deeply for its independent history. There are patriotic symbols of important people located in every city. The only place you will notice a little difference is Cuenca, the third-largest city of Ecuador. The streets of Cuenca are still made of cobblestone with very narrow sidewalks like the colonial times. Another design inherited from Spain that they have is the terra cotta roofing.
