Building a Community

Although it is good that these jobs exist, it is also sad to see that the job market in Granada, for the large part, seems dependent on tourism.

When someone finally finds a job, it is common for the contract to be only for one year or even less. Many people do not know if they will have a job the following year. This creates uncertainty, and people feel that they should save money instead of spending it. Thus, business profits are limited and they cannot employ many people. In my opinion as a business major, it is important to employ people in order to have more cash flow through the city. This would also help grow the country's GDP and lower the unemployment rate.

Is this need being met? How?:

According to my favorite business class I am taking here in Spain, there are many steps involved in creating a business here, making it harder to start a business than in, say, the United States. There are many documents and licenses that need to be obtained with the help of lawyers in order to open a business in Spain. I believe that it should be easier to start a business: by reducing the number of steps; by making the documentation easier to fill out; and by providing more resources to help businesses grow. Anyone who wants to create a business in Spain has to take a trip to Madrid, just to sign a paper and register the business. I believe that this registration process should be possible in cities throughout Spain. In my business class, I learned about two resources that help small businesses develop: these are Centro de Información and Red de Creación de Empresas (Information Center and Business Creation Network).
