Growing up in the U.S., it is easy to assume that everyone will think and act like we do, even in other countries! We are all taught what is “right“ and “wrong,” but sometimes these ideas do not match the concepts of "right" and "wrong" in countries we visit. Singapore, for example, is a strict country compared to the U.S. There are some things you must be careful about here - things that you can do in the U.S., but not here. Are there any baseball players in the room? Have you ever chewed on a piece of gum and had nowhere to put it, so you just stuck it under your seat in the dugout? In Singapore, you will never find gum, because it is banned! It is seriously risky to try chewing gum in Singapore. The police here can fine and arrest you! Another thing people do a lot in the US is litter (if you are good, you do not litter because it is bad for the environment!). In Singapore, the punishment for littering can be as high as $10,000 (if you do it 3 times). Even scarier: if you steal, you can go to jail for 3 years! Singapore has cameras everywhere, including hidden ones you cannot see, so that the government can make sure people follow their laws.  While these laws might seem crazy to Americans, they work very well to keep people in line and keep the city clean.
