Most people here prefer ojeks because of the sense of freedom they provide. When cliffside rivers spritz mist in your face or when you peek over the drivers helmet and see lakes and jungles in the distance, you would agree with me when I say that the best way to travel in West Sumatra is by ojek! So long as you are careful and remind the driver to slow-down, you'll enjoy your trip!
Riding with a ojek driver is much like having a cousin pick you up. Because of the respect Indonesians carry for each other, you should not be surprised should a driver call you Pa (sir) or Bu (madam). The tightness of this community means that getting around never feels lonely!
