Traveler Bio

My name is PJ and I am a Finance student studying in New York City. I was born in Guangdong, China, but my family and I moved to the United States when I was only four years old. I have been living in New York since then. When deciding where I wanted to study abroad, I knew that China was on top of my list. This is my first time back in China since I left!

Because I left China when I was so young, I have no memory of it. A lot of my knowledge of China comes from the stories that my grandmother told me as I was growing up. She lived through very hard times in China. Her family was not very wealthy and she had to endure numerous wars. However, there was always a bright side to her stories. She spoke of the beauty of China, its natural wonders as well as its man-made spectacles. She also told me about the different foods that she came across. My grandmother was the one who taught me how to cook and love food!

In addition to continuing my education, my motivation to come to China is also to rediscover my heritage. I want to see China through my own eyes so that when I return, I can share stories with my grandmother like she did with me. My interest in China lies in both a historical and a modern perspective, including the food culture, traditions, beliefs, languages, architecture and much more!
