Traveler Bio

Sanbanoo! Hello, my name is Monica, and I’m currently living and working in Khovd, a city in western Mongolia. I’m originally from Denver, Colorado, where I grew up climbing mountains and hanging out downtown with my friends. Although I’m now living in one of the least populated countries on Earth, I’ve found a lot of similarities between Mongolia and Colorado: both have dry climates, mountains, plains and lots of open space for nature to grow in!

I grew up in a family that hosted international students from all different countries who came to study in the U.S., and that made me want to travel to other parts of the world. When I was in high school I spent a summer abroad in Mongolia, and in college, I lived in Jordan and Japan as well. I'm a huge bookworm, and growing up I knew that I wanted other people to learn how to enjoy reading in English, too. As a current English Teaching Assistant at Khovd University, I help university students to gain fluency in English, as well as running culture clubs and working with the American Corner at the local library.

I look forward to talking about my experiences in Mongolia with you all, and I can't wait to learn more about your own journeys!
