Traveler Bio

こんにちは (Hello)!

My name is Martin Nguyen, but you can call me Marty. I am 22 years old and studying mathematics at the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!). I am currently doing my study abroad in Japan at Kyushu University. I was originally born in the Czech Republic... can you find it on a map? I spent my first 12 years in the Czech Republic before moving to Georgia. For the next year, I'll be living in Fukuoka, Japan, which is on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu. I applied for and received the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, which has helped me make this study abroad opportunity possible.

I love sharing and teaching science and mathematics to everyone! It is important for us to ask ourselves these questions every day: how, what, why, where and when. It is easy to create the questions with those words, but it is much more difficult to answer them! Through my travels, I hope to answer this question: What do the Japanese study in order to become the most technologically-advanced country in the world? While I travel to different destinations in Japan, I am hoping that my questions and reflections will help you also think of questions, and together we can explore some answers!

I cannot wait for you all to join my journey in Japan and I am very excited to see you!
