Guten Tag! Good day! My name is Marta, I am 22 years old, and I am a native of Woodbury, Minnesota, which is just outside the Twin Cities. After graduating from high school, I attended Luther College in Iowa. There I studied biology, alongside taking classes in sociology, religion, Spanish and more. I also participated in (and continued to perform with) several music ensembles. I play flute, piccolo, piano, and sing, and have continued my musical activites since arriving here in Germany!
During college, I studied mechanisms contributing to neurodegenerative diseases in a microscopic worm model called C. elegans. This led to my finding the lab in Germany where, with a mouse model, I am currently exploring a potential future Parkinson's disease treatment. Besides studying in the lab, I like to read, try new recipes, blog, go on hikes, and discover cozy coffee shops and cafes!
This spring, I am excited to share my journey with you all, and in turn, I look forward to hearing about your own adventures!
