My father Stacy, on the other hand, is a stern but gentle man, and has shown me the importance of self discipline. It is a life lesson with endless value. My decision to join the military after college has stemmed from this burning desire to test my limits. Although he was slightely worried, my father understood why I chose to study abroad in Ghana. It was preciesly to test my ability to live outside of my comfort zone. Europe is often the first continent of choice when deciding to study or explore. However, I believe Africa has a multitude of lessons to be learned and cultures to experience that will only add to a person's overall knowledge of the world and the people in it.
Each and every one of my experiences growing up has had a profound effect on where I am today and the person I have become. A small house on a corner in New York is where I began and where I always return.
