Traveler Bio

Privyet! Hi! My name is Anna. I am 24 years old and grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut. Since I was in kindergarten I have loved to study languages. I started with Spanish, then in high school also began to study Chinese and Russian! (Fun fact, my greeting to you was in Russian!) I also was on an all-girls robotics team, which inspired me to study mechanical engineering in college. As a second major, I chose international studies, because I wanted to connect my studies of engineering and Russian language.

When I was 16, I was lucky enough to win a scholarship to travel to Russia and study the language. On this trip, I fell in love with traveling and knew that I wanted to return even before I left to go home! Since then I’ve been to Russia two more times and I even went to Kazakhstan to study Russian. (I’ve also been to 10 other countries!) They do say that the travel bug is contagious!

I am lucky to be back in Russia--this time, not to study language, but to use it! I won a Fulbright Research grant, and will be spending time talking (in Russian) with lots of locals. I’m so excited to be back in Russia because I think its culture is really cool. If you like tea, you’d definitely love it here! (Spoiler: it does get cold here in the winter, but there’s also so much more to Russia than the snow!) I can’t wait to tell you more about my time in Russia!
