Traveler Bio

¡Hola! Hello! My name is Alexa, I am 21 years old, and I was born and raised in Oregon City, Oregon. I currently attend Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where I major in international affairs with a focus on Latin America. When I was a junior in high school, I had the opportunity to study abroad in France for a year. It was this experience that propelled my interest in exploring different countries and learning different languages. I had the opportunity to intern in Singapore, and now I am studying in Spain!

My parents are originally from Mexico and moved to the U.S. before I was born, so I grew up in a Mexican-American household. I grew up speaking Spanish around my house and also attended a bilingual Spanish-English school throughout most of my childhood. I felt that I lacked a certain level of fluidity in Spanish that I would need to pursue a career in a Spanish-speaking market, so I decided to immerse myself in the language. I applied for an overseas program in Alicante, Spain through my college. I was fortunate enough to receive several scholarships, such as the Gilman International Scholarship, to help fund my studies in Spain. I’m currently taking university courses in Spanish and learning so much about Spanish culture and cuisine along the way.

I can’t wait for you to come on this journey with me!
