What is the air temperature right now? 84° (Fahrenheit)
How was the weather this week? It is very hot here in Puerto Rico. Luckily, it cools down in the evenings.
What animals did we see this week? Dolphin, lizard, chameleon, mongoose, and two kinds of snails. Birds: magnificent frigate bird, pigeons, pelicans, pearly-eyed thrasher, bananaquits (do you remember that we fed banana quits sugar from our hands when we were in Warderick Wells in the Bahamas?). Bill caught two lobsters and one Spanish mackerel.
What was the coolest thing we saw in nature this week? We went to El Yunque National Forest. This is the only tropical rainforest that is managed by the United States National Forest Service.
A rainforest is a thick tropical forest that is green year-round. There is a lot of rain (almost 200 inches a year in the highest mountain peaks), and the trees have big leaves that overlap and form a canopy.
