Perspectives

They also found it odd that I have not traveled all over the United States because many of them have been all over England. I had to tell them that some states in the United States were larger than the United Kingdom as a whole. This helped them to put into perspective the size of America by comparing it to their country. In this conversation, my understanding of time changed because some buildings in England are older than America itself, and that thought still amazes me. I even joked to my friends that where I am from, a building from the seventies is considered old to us. In England, I am surrounded by buildings that are hundreds of years old. The home that I am living in is next to homes that were built in the 1700s.

Even in my short time in England, I can honestly say that everything from the transportation, to the accents and to the food have been different from my home in Mississippi. I can honestly say that if you were to put things into perspective, and look through the eyes of the local people, they would think that I am weird too. As I go farther in my journey through college life here, I would like to say that even though things are different, the people here are the same as the people back home in America. We stress out about the same things, laugh about the same things and even cry about the same things, although we live worlds apart. Living here has made me put things into perspective and see that we as people are not as different as we think we are.
