My name is Tia Wilson and I am from Greenwood, Mississippi. I am currently in Exeter, U.K. where I am studying as an International Exchange Student for the next few months. Before I go into more detail about why I chose to study abroad, I want to tell everyone a little bit about me. I am 19 years old and have a younger sister named Paige, who is 14 years old. My home university is the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, which is three and a half hours away from my home in Greenwood. I major in Polymer Science and Engineering, and I am working towards becoming an Engineer.
The reason I decided the study abroad is simple, I wanted to experience something that many people were afraid to do. My university had many study abroad opportunities to choose from, and after sifting through many program pamphlets and doing many hours of research on different locations, I decided to do a semester abroad at the University of Exeter in Exeter, U.K. When I made the decision to travel abroad, the first person I told was my mother. She thought that I was out of my mind. I had never traveled outside of the country before, let alone been on a plane. Taking this leap of faith, was a big deal.
As I began preparing for my excursion across an ocean, I learned that there is a lot involved in the process of studying abroad.
