A True Melting Pot

Introduction:

Singapore is famous for being centrally located in Southeast Asia and well known as a multiracial and multicultural community. It is also famous for being the home to many different kinds of foods from countries such as China, Malaysia, India, Korea, Japan and more. One of Singapore's staples is its street food, which can be found in big communal areas called hawker centres. These hawker centres have a big, central seating area surrounded by an overwhelming number of food stalls, each typically serving a specific kind of food. The options appear limitless and they all always look so delicious!  And the best part is that the food is very affordable. Often times, the cost of a full meal (of say, chicken and rice, a dish I love!) is only about $2.00.

What food did I try?:

I have tried many foods in Singapore, and yet I still feel as though I have only scratched the surface!  There are so many delicious foods that I always have trouble choosing.  My favorite food is char siew (barbeque pork). In Thailand, I tried pad thaitom yum goong (a spicy lime soup with shrimp), gaengkeawangai (green curry with chicken) and sugar dumplings with coconut!  I have tried various kinds of curry (which I had never had before, but really enjoy) and a few staples of Singapore, namely chai tow kway (stir-fried noodles) and dim sum.
