Traveler Bio

Hallo! Hello!

My name is Solina and I am currently living in Chemnitz, Germany for a year as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant. I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia and went to college in Boston, Massachusetts. I am glad I lived in Boston for four years and got used to the weather there because Chemnitz can get very cold and snowy in the winter!

I began learning German in the fourth grade. I immediately fell in love with the language and felt excited by the challenge of learning a new language. In high school, I traveled to Germany for the first time and experienced a completely different culture. Lucky for me, it was a summer featuring the European Soccer Cup, which is very important in Germany. I got to experience an integral part of German culture!

In college, I studied German and international studies. Because of this, I am very interested in world politics and studying the ways in which people communicate with each other across cultures. I also enjoy traveling, swimming and listening to music. One of the things I miss most about the United States is my dog Colby, so I always get excited when I get the chance to pet dogs here in Germany.

Working at a German school has been challenging but also exciting. There are many differences between the American and German education systems, which you and I will discuss much more in the weeks to come. I look forward to sharing my journey with you!
