Keepin' It Clean in Manizales

Hi friends! Do you find it hard to clean your room? When I was in elementary school (and even nowadays), I often had a hard time finding the motivation to clean up. I wish I had a magic wand that I could wave around and use to put everything in order. Sadly, that only happens in Harry Potter; I’m lucky that my room is small. Can you imagine being the mayor of a city? What procedures and systems would you put in place to keep such a big place looking clean?

What community need did I learn about?:

When I first moved to Manizales, one of the most impressive things that I noticed was the lack of trash on the sides of the road. It is so clean here! Trash collection is a big community need, but it is not unique to Manizales. Most large cities have trash collection programs. But I think that Manizales actually does a better job than my hometown! In Manizales, the citizens and the government are very serious about keeping the city clean. There are many ways that they do this.

Why does the community have this need?:

As I've already mentioned, trash collection is a pretty basic need because no one wants to live in filth. Where my grandparents live in South Dakota, the population is very small, so public trash collection services do not come to their house.
