Pique Macho

How is the food prepared?:

The different parts of the food are made at the same time, and then the dish is assembled. It's a great meal because it's not too hard to make. We just have to peel, chop, and fry the potatoes. Then we have to season and cook the steak so that it's soft and falls apart in our mouth. The hard-boiled eggs and chorizo are the easiest part because all we have to do is boil and slice! And then we enjoy it!

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

The story of Pique Macho is my favorite part of the food. First, you have to know that picar in Bolivia can mean bite, so sometimes someone will ask if you want to "picar" a little something for a snack. Pique Macho can probably be understood as a really big bite or snack, because of how huge of a meal it is. The story goes that a group of men came into a restaurant late at night after they finished their work and they were really hungry, so they asked the owner of the restaurant for something to picar. When she asked them what they wanted, they basically told her to bring whatever she could make, and she made what was left in the kitchen that late in the evening, which was the ingredients of Pique Macho. Now we have a wonderful food to share with a group of people when our stomachs are growling!
