Let Me Introduce Myself

My school’s name is Harvey Mudd College, and I study general engineering. Engineers are problem-solvers that want to make more things possible or easier to do. Sometimes they design things like rockets, robots, and roads. Other times they might create processes like producing toothpaste faster and on a larger scale to mass produce it for sale.

I’m studying abroad because I think a picture is worth a thousand words, but an experience is worth a million more. The world is a big, beautiful place filled with lots of interesting people and ideas. Those people see the world differently for many reasons. Sometimes it’s because of the religion they believe in. Sometimes it’s because they live in different kinds of environments like jungles, deserts, or mountains. I want to learn about all the different types of people in the world and how they live. The best way to do that is to go meet them myself and walk in their shoes!

Right now, I’m on the other side of the world in a small country called Nepal (pronounced: nay-Paul). It’s located in South-Central Asia between China and India. Here, I’m learning the Nepali language and about the culture. While we’re mainly focusing on speaking Nepali, we’re also learning how to read and write in Devanagari, the script Nepali is written in. As for Nepali culture, it includes many things like what they wear, eat and value! The program has also brought in an engineering professor from Patan (a nearby city) who has been teaching me about electrical systems engineering.

I started my undergraduate adventure in Beijing, China, and it will end in Christchurch, New Zealand next semester. In reality, though, my adventure will never end!
