In the weeks leading up to my time in Barcelona, I was simultaneously terrified and excited beyond belief. I had never traveled overseas before. I can count the number of states I have visited on two hands with fingers left to spare, and I had never even taken a flight longer than four hours! Every time my friends talked about the interesting places they visited each summer, I was quietly jealous. Now it is my turn, and I am absolutely loving the experience of travel!

I am in Barcelona to study and improve my Spanish.  Leading up to this trip, my ability to communicate was my biggest fear since I have studied Spanish for less than six months in total, and I knew that not only would I have to speak it 24/7, but I would also be living with a Spanish family that I had never met before! To put it mildly, I was terrified! I was nervous my host family would not like me, or be patient enough to sift through my limited Spanish. I was nervous that the other students on my trip would all know each other and leave me out. However, as soon as I got here, I discovered just the opposite was true.

In the classes I have taken so far, I have been pleasantly surprised at the amount of Spanish that I understand.
