Many people, myself included, rely on public transportation to get around in Sydney. The public transport system includes trains, buses, ferries and light rails. Ferries are another option when you are traveling between North and South Sydney, since they are separated by the harbor. Light rails are very similar to a train but run completely on electricity. Light rails are like an above ground subway and they are very quiet.
People use the public transportation system to get around in Sydney. I take the train every day to go to class and to lab. I will take the ferry to go to Manly Beach, another famous Australian beach. I will use buses to go to some places, like meeting my friends near campus. My most used form of transportation, is my own two feet! I walk to most places since it is a city and everything is quite close together. However, when I use public transport, I use my Opal Card to pay for it. You put money on your Opal Card and you use it for every mode of public transport, so it makes it easy to pay. We use Opal Cards to tap on and off all forms of public transport, this means you scan your card to get on and scan it to get off and it calculates the fee and deducts it from the card. However, not everyone relies on pubic transport, some people will drive cars. Driving in Australia is very different than in the U.S.
