An Interview with Padmaja

How do you get around?:

I have a driver who comes six days a week. My husband and sons also drive. I can drive, but I am nervous about the traffic in Hyderabad. If no one is available to drive me somewhere, I use Uber or Ola (an India-only app similar to Uber).

What types of clothing do you like to wear?:

On a daily basis, I wear a long tunic called a kurta and leggings called chudidhar pants. To parties, I wear a saree. I never wear dresses or skirts, as most older women in South India do not wear these. I also don't wear Western-style trousers unless I'm on vacation out of town, and I've never tried jeans.

What do you like to do in your free time?:

I am very busy with work, but when I do have free time, I really enjoy gardening and plants. I also take care of our dog, Winnie. She follows me everywhere and I play fetch with her and feed her rice and chicken by hand. I also enjoy looking on Pinterest for new dishes and desserts to make.

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

I speak English and Telugu. I can speak very little Hindi, not even enough to be helpful.

Do you have pets?:

Yes! We have a dog Winnie. She is a labrador retriever and she is eight years old.

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

I have traveled to the United States. We went to Georgia, Florida, California, and a few other states. We visited a lot of family on that trip, including Nina's family in Atlanta. I have also been to some places that are close to India, like Thailand, Singapore, and Bali. I wish that I had more time for traveling!
