Meilin's Autobiography

I had the travel bug! But I wanted to travel to learn about different cultures. My first trip in college was to New Orleans, Louisians, where I helped rebuild houses that were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. During my third year of college, I went to South Africa to teach pre-school children and to assess high school students' motivation. In South Africa, we saw a lot of history. I even got to see Nelson Mandela's home and prison cell! Lastly, I traveled to Jinotega, Nicaragua (in Central America) to teach English to children through a program called OutReach360.

One of my biggest achievements was actually applying and getting accepted into the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant program. As an English Teaching Assistant, I am in Ecuador for ten months to teach university students the English language. While here, I am also doing some research as my secondary project that relates to bilingual education in the country. I am also volunteering and have already learned a lot about the Ecuadorian culture! I look forward to sharing all that I learn with you over the next few weeks!
