Traveler Bio

Hi! My name is Marissa. I currently live and work in Germany, but I am originally from Crown Point, Indiana. I went to college at Butler University in Indianapolis and graduated in May with a degree in German language and literature. Next fall, I am going back to school at Vanderbilt University. My dream job is to be a professor at a university.

I miss my two dogs and friends from home, but I have been able to make some new friends in Germany. There are other Americans and Europeans who teach English through the Fulbright program like me, and we have all been placed at local schools to help teach English to German children. I am sure some of my new friends and colleagues will make guest appearances during our journey together!

I currently live in Saarbrücken (zaar-brook-en), which is located in the smallest German state: Saarland. This is my third time in Germany but my first time in Saarland. Saarbrücken is near the border with France, so I hope this will be a great chance to practice and improve my French, as well.

Outside of teaching, I love music. I played trumpet all throughout middle school, high school and college. I did not bring my horn to Germany, but I still enjoy singing and listening to music. I also like to draw. Maybe I will share some of my drawings in future posts! I will also be sure to share photos of my many hiking excursions. Are you ready to begin this adventure?
