Oh, the Places You'll Go

However, most of the buses stop running after midnight, so if you are out late, it is a bit difficult to get home. Now that I have been here for a month, I am much more comfortable traveling around Hong Kong!

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

In a way, yes! Hong Kong is a very fast-paced culture that is all about getting things done! If you are not moving, then you will be left behind. The mini-buses (green ones) are designed to go fast and they will not stop unless you press the button and if you want to ride one then you need to wave your hand so the driver stops to pick you up. On the red buses, there are no buttons and you just have to yell out that you want the next stop. If you say nothing, the bus will fly by the stop you want.

There is also no eating on the MTR or you will get glared at! Hong Kong prides itself on being clean and the MTR is no exception. Riders are very respectful and there is no yelling or eating. Everyone is very composed with only a few semi-loud conversations. There are even some "quiet cars" on the MTR, which is where the televisions that play news in some of the cars do not make any noises and everyone is generally pretty silent.

Hong Kong is split up into three areas: New Territories (where I live), Kowloon and Hong Kong Island (and surrounding areas). The many modes of transportation offered here help people get to where they need to be, no matter which area. This is especially helpful for people who live very far from where they work!
