Daily Life in Tajikistan

I either walk or take special (and very cheap) buses that drive on certain routes that we call 'marshrutkas.'"

What types of clothing do you like to wear?:

"Probably the same things that you like to wear -- jeans, t-shirts and sneakers. When I was in school, I had to wear a uniform, and I hated it."

What do you like to do in your free time?:

"I like to read. I also play a lot of sports, mainly basketball and Ultimate Frisbee. I also try to run with Katherine. I say 'try' because I rarely can keep up with her -- she's really fast."

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

"Besides English, I speak Tajik (with "assalom" as your "hello") and Russian (with "privet" as your "hello"). Not so long ago, I was kind of fluent in Chinese as well ("nihao" is the word you are wondering about)."

Do you have pets?:

"As Katherine has probably already told you, we have a cat named Aijon. However, we rarely use his real name and call him things like 'silly goose,' 'kid-kiddo' and 'butterball,' because he is very cute. We found him on the street and couldn't resist the urge to take him home with us. A year and a ton of spoiled furniture later, we have no regrets about that decision."

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

"I lived in the U.S. for almost a year and a half. I also lived for half a year in China. Those countries could not be more different. I have traveled to Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. And no -- I did not make the last three up -- these countries do exist."
