Part of the reason Izzy and I decided to move to Chile was to understand the world from a different perspective. To explain, as a youngster your mind is open to all the different possibilities that the world could hold. You can barely hold your imagination from bursting out of you. Unfortunately, as you grow up the world slowly becomes boxed in. Somewhere along the way you start to see things similarly to everyone else around you.

At your age, I wanted to be an astronaut or a marine biologist when I grew up. Then, everyone told me that I was too tall to be able to go into space and that I lived in the middle of a desert so it didn't make sense for me to study the ocean (I showed them!). This is part of what growing up is about--learning what the rules of life are. This is both important and the worst because everyone slowly starts to become closer to each other. I used to go to school dressed as a dinosaur in kindergarten because I thought dinosaurs were the coolest thing ever. No one goes to high school dressed as a dinosaur, even though giant prehistoric reptile beasts are still the coolest thing ever. Over time, we slowly become the same as those around us.

The key is that this effect is for the people and the culture that is around us.
