Although we could not interview Thomas Edison, we think he is interesting enough to share some of his life with you. He had over 1,000 patents when he died. He was always trying to find new ways to do something. We loved hearing about this man's life!
How do you get around? One of the ways Thomas Edison got around was by train. He saved a young boy from being hit by a train once. He was given a job because of his bravery. He also rode horses and walked to get around. Once cars were invented, he could get around that way.
What is your job like? The job that Mr. Edison was most famous for was being an inventor. He is known for inventing the lightbulb. He also invented the phonograph and the telephone.
He had labs in New Jersey and one in Florida. He would work very long hours in his lab. He even had a cot that he slept on in the lab!
When we visited Edison's lab in Florida, they showed us that there wasn't a clock in there. That was because Mr. Edison liked to work until he felt he was done, rather than letting the clock tell him when he was done. He was a very interesting inventor and person.
