How We Travel
The bikes we will use in Africa are different than the bikes that we rode growing up. They look a lot different. The front and back wheels looked like they were covered in bags.
"Those bags are panniers," Ryan told me. "We are going to put all our gear in them."
We don't have a car, truck or anything else to carry all our stuff. We are going to have to carry it all ourselves. All our clothes, food, tents, sleeping bags, pots, pans, and laptops have to be carried on our bikes.
I wondered how a bike could carry all that weight. Ryan pointed out that the bikes have strong racks on them. The racks are on the the front and back tires. These racks hold up our panniers and make sure our bikes can handle the load.
