It seems like almost every country we've visited in Africa has some kind of traditional dancing and music. I have really enjoyed learning about and experiencing these. Up until now, all of the traditional dancing and music I've written about were new to me. For example, before I was in Burundi I had no idea they had a tradition of drumming.

Egypt is the first African country I've been to that has a traditional dance that I've heard of before. You have probably heard of this type of dance, too. Can you guess what it is? It's belly dancing!

What tradition did we learn about? Although I'd heard about belly dancing and seen some belly dancers on TV, I didn't really know anything about it. Once I arrived in Egypt I decided I'd learn more about belly dancing.

I soon found out there was a lot I didn't know about belly dancing. Did you know that ‘raqs sharqui' is what many Egyptians call belly dancing? Neither did I!
