How We Travel

At McMurdo Station, we will land on an ice runway. The planes have special landing gear that is like really big skis.

Once we?re out at our field camp on the sea ice, we will be using a Piston Bully. This is a lot like a tank or a bulldozer. It has tracks instead of wheels. The Piston Bully will pull a sled that has all of our scientific equipment on it. We will also use snow mobiles to get around.

To go between our field camp and McMurdo station, we will fly in helicopters. We will constantly be monitoring our weather station and listening to the radio broadcasts for weather reports.
