The Starfish of the Philippines!

Where does it live?:

The starfish tend to live in low tidal zones and among coral reefs in oceans around the world.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Starfish have a hard, exterior skeleton, and their ability to cling to rocks with suction-cup-like feet makes it for most predators to find and eat them. But starfish do have several predators. Sharks, manta rays, Alaskan king crabs and even other starfish prey upon them. Luckily, the starfish is not a primary food source for any predator due to its unusual and rather indigestible body. It lives near an abundance of food sources, such as plankton, that are easy to eat.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

Starfish are extremely resilient and can survive in some extreme situations. For example, if a starfish loses part of its body, it can regrow it in time. Apparently a starfish can experience severe damage and still regrow its entire body; for example, if it still has a fifth of its central body and an arm, it can still regenerate. I find this and the many other statistics discussed above to be all good reasons to admire this singular creature with admiration and respect!
