Finding a Place In This World

Introduction:

I work at New York University as a Residential Assistant, where I help  students adjust to Paris. I plan activities for each week I am on duty and act as a resource for the students as they get to know Paris. I am on duty once a month, and the job comes with a lot of responsibility.

What community need did I learn about?:

Planes travel faster than emotions. When you first arrive in a new place, it is exciting before it is scary, it is wonderful before it can be scary, and it is happy before it is sad. When I first arrived to Paris everything was new and exciting. I didn't mind getting lost, I liked when people complimented me for my accent, and I barely thought of my hometown. But overtime, it can get frustrating when you lose your way or when people correct your accent or don't understand you. Homesickness can set in. The most important thing to know about community is that they are there to support you. In this article, I'll tell you more about the community that I've been a part of in Paris, which is NYU Paris.

Why does the community have this need?:

In new places there are new friends and new experiences. The best thing about community is that there is always a new day with people who make your journey in a new place that much better. NYU has a strong community, with its two residence halls and school building right in the heart of Paris.
