My whole life has been a multicultural experiment. Until I was six years old, I grew up in a small village in China. My parents were working in China, however, our family is ethnically Korean. I remember being the only Korean person in kindergarten. From a very young age, I began learning how to adapt to different cultures. When I moved to Mount Pleasant, North Carolina at the age of six, I was the only Korean in class and the only non-white person. I had to adapt once again to a completely new culture.

Being an immigrant forces you to pay more attention to your surroundings in order to understand the culture of your new environment. Now that I'm living in Spain, I have had to adapt again. While it has been some time since I have had to do this, my study abroad experience has brought me yet another opportunity to understand a new culture.

Before coming to Madrid, I heard vague stereotypes about the country. Spaniards are stereotyped to be time insensitive and lazy.
