My name is Jane Viviano and I was born in Massachusetts. When I was eight years old, my mom, dad, brother and I moved to Florida. Most of my relatives are in Massachusetts, so we visited them often and had big family gatherings with lots of food when I was growing up. We are a big Italian American family! Although Florida is nice and sunny, I also love watching the leaves change colors and waiting for snow in the north. Some of my favorite things to do are read, draw, do yoga, send postcards, try new foods, sip tea and take walks in nature. I also like to listen to music and play my violin.
I am currently living in Rabat, Morocco. Rabat is the capital city of Morocco. If you look at a map of the continent of Africa, Morocco is in the top left corner, next to Algeria and above Mauritania. Morocco is part of a region called "the Middle East and North Africa." This region covers all the countries from Morocco to Iran and Turkey. When I went to college, I studied Middle Eastern Studies and learned all about this part of the world, including the culture, languages and people.
Why did I decide to study the Middle East? I first traveled to the Middle East when I was 16.
