A Taste of South Korea's Street Food

Introduction:

Many different cultures were represented at the restaurants I went to in Jejudo. I tried one of the island's special dishes, grilled black pork, as well as pho, fried shrimp udon, rice porridge with abalone, a drink called mangosteen and lots of other snacks along the way. I found it easy to find new dishes to try since my hostel was right next to Arang Joeul Food Street, and most meals were fairly inexpensive.

What food did I try?:

The Japanese fried shrimp udon I tried came from a small restaurant run by a family, like most restaurants on the island. It came with thick udon noodles in a rather salty soup base with some other vegetables, and the tempura dishes sat on of the bowl. It included two pieces of fried shrimp as well as a fried hardboiled egg and a fried potato. The fried foods came with a sweet and sour sauce to dip them in. It was delicious!

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I had had a long day before I had stumbled upon the restaurant, and the dish itself was very warm and savory. The udon noodles were cooked to be perfectly soft, and the soup base was good enough to sip on its own.  When I tried the fried foods with the sauce, however, I was blown away.
