Reach the World will hold its fifteenth Annual Benefit and Charity Auction at the Boathouse in Central Park March 11, 2015. Proceeds from this annual event will support the costs of RTW's global education and mentoring programs for disadvantaged youth.
The Cronkite Award for Excellence
Reach the World was honored to include Mr. Walter Cronkite as the Chairman of its founding Advisory Board. Mr. Cronkite was not only one of the world’s leading journalists, but also a great explorer and adventurer. Each year, Reach the World gives the Cronkite Award for Excellence in Exploration and Storytelling in honor of Mr. Cronkite’s memory to an individual whose life and work exemplifies the intersection between exploration and journalism.
This year, Reach the World will give its Cronkite Award to traveler, writer and National Geographic Digital Nomad Andrew Evans. Recognized as an explorer and accomplished storyteller, Evans has received two Lowell Thomas Awards from the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), two Folio Awards, and two awards from the National Travel Journalism Association (NATJA). As National Geographic’s Digital Nomad, Evans spent five years reporting from around the world in real time, online. Andrew has broadcast live from kayak, camel-back, and helicopter, and from inside King Tut’s tomb. He gained a worldwide following when he made his epic overland journey from National Geographic headquarters all the way to Antarctica, using public transportation—a 12,000 mile journey.
