Annyeong-Haseyo! Hello from Seoul!

With my professor’s encouragement, I became an Asian Studies major instead.

I’m still passionate about medicine, but as an Asian Studies major, I now take classes about the Korean language and the Chinese economy, while also learning about things like Genetics and Psychology. It’s the perfect balance for me. If you told my high school self that I would be studying Asian culture in college, I would’ve said “No way!,” but what I’ve learned is that new knowledge naturally leads to new passions.

In my junior year of college, I thought to myself, 'What better place is there to study Asia than…Asia?,' and I started looking for study-abroad programs. I finally decided to study abroad at Yonsei University in South Korea because of a couple of reasons. Yonsei University is known for being internationally student-friendly and has a beautiful campus in the heart of Seoul. The bustling city of Seoul has an endless number of things to do and places to explore. Last but not least, I’ve always wanted to learn the Korean language.

After being in Seoul for two weeks, I’ve found even more reasons to love it here. The street food is incredible, you can reach almost any part of South Korea in a few hours by bullet train and the coexistence of traditional and modern Korean culture is fascinating. I can’t wait to share even more of what I learn about Korean culture and society in the coming months, and I can’t wait to learn more about you!
