Hi everyone! My name is Dulce and I’m currently studying in Seoul, South Korea at Yonsei University for the Spring 2019 semester. When I return from South Korea to the United States, I’ll be finishing my last year at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where I study linguistics, Spanish and Korean. My interest has always been languages, specifically how languages are taught, learned, acquired and formed, and this interest was greatly influenced by my experiences in my hometown of Los Angeles, California.

I’ve lived in Los Angeles all my life and I grew up in a mostly black and Latinx low-income community where it was rare for people to explore outside our own community. However, Los Angeles is a big city, and with public transportation anything is possible! One of my favorite things to do with my friends when I was in high school was to visit neighborhoods such as Chinatown, Koreatown, Little Tokyo, Little Ethiopia, Historic Filipinotown and Little Armenia. I was always curious about the experiences of immigrant communities in the United States as my own parents immigrated to the United States from Mexico in the 1990s.
