Hello everyone! I've arrived in West Africa to begin studying at the University of Ghana.

I would like to first tell you a little bit about my life back home. I am from Pasadena, California, which is very close to Los Angeles. I also have a 10-year-old sister and a 2-year-old brother who I spend a lot of time with. We are all very close, so when I decided to leave the U.S. for a few months, I knew I would miss them very much. Before I left, I had to go to the doctor a lot because I needed to get special medicines and vaccines to travel to Africa. A few months later, I began to pack my things into my suitcases. I had never left the North American continent before, so I was not sure what to take. I knew it would be warm, so I packed my favorite t-shirts and dresses. I also packed things I needed to use every day such as soap, money and school supplies. I flew to Accra, Ghana via New York, but this layover was very short and cold. The whole trip took 16 hours!

As soon as I got off the plane in Ghana, I felt the heat that I would be living with for the next few months. Luckily, I enjoy the warm weather! A van from my new university picked me up and took me back to campus. When we got out of the parking lot, I saw a lot of cars and people walking on the side of the roads selling snacks and drinks. The road I was on was very busy and the drivers were honking their car horns.
